Market Opportunity
If you've ever sat in your car after a corporate wellness webinar nobody attended, knowing the company will renew the contract anyway because their insurance broker said to — you already understand the buyer. The person hiring you is an HR director with a $40K wellness budget and no time, or a 42-year-old who just got a borderline lab result and doesn't want to wait six weeks to see their doctor. Both will pay for someone to sit with them weekly and help them actually change something.
The U.S. health coaching market hit roughly $22.6 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at 7-8% per year through 2030. About 75% of U.S. health systems have moved at least some services to virtual delivery, and clients who would never have driven to a wellness office will sit on Zoom for an hour at lunch. A coach in Tulsa can charge Brooklyn rates if the packaging is right.
The catch is scope. As a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (CHHP) — sometimes called an integrative or functional medicine coach — you cannot diagnose, prescribe, or treat disease. That language is the entire legal moat between coaching and unauthorized medical practice. You teach USDA dietary guidelines, sleep, stress, movement, and habit change. You don't hand out thyroid protocols. The licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) path is a different business — four years of accredited school, a clinical residency, licensed in 26 states plus DC, $80K+ in school, and a clinic build-out. This plan is the coaching path. Mention the ND route to clients who ask, and stop there.
